Start of the season on the River Dodder

St Patrick's Day, the 17th of March always means one thing to me, the start of the season on the river Dodder. It's where I caught my first fish many years ago, a Brown Trout of 3/4lb on a worm and for that reason I've always been fond of this little river. Rising in the Wicklow mountains and flowing through Tallaght, Rathgar, Donnybrook, and Ballsbridge before entering Grand Canal Dock in Ringsend where it meets with the River Liffey. This little trout river offers some great trout fishing right in the heart of Dublin.

First pike of the year

Caught out in Blessington Reservoir on a 1" curl tailed grub and 2g jighead, I was expecting perch but this little jack was a nice surprise on the ultra light gear.

LRF (Light Rock Fish)

The second edition of the Jersey Bass Guides Rockfish Files is finally here and its a bumper issue focusing on Light Rock Fishing (LRF). If you haven't heard of LRF, stick on the kettle and get reading, there's a lot more to it than 'little lures for little fish' as I've heard it described. It seems to be one of those things that divides opinion, some people love it and others just don't see the appeal. Its just another strand to your fishing and like so many other types of fishing, it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I'm certainly enjoying it.

 Check it out here.
